The Council of Ministers Approves Amendment to Article 9 of the Saudi Building Code Implementation Regulations
The official Umm Al-Qura newspaper published the approval of the Saudi Council of Ministers on an amendment to Article 9 of the Saudi Building Code Implementation Regulations.
The amendments include adding the phrase, "The occupancy certificate shall be an essential requirement for the full activation of electrical power" to the article. As amended, the article now reads: "A building may not be occupied except with an occupancy certificate in accordance with the occupancy classification outlined in the code and in accordance with the procedures and timeframes specified by the regulations. The occupancy certificate shall be an essential requirement for the full activation of electrical power."
The decision to approve the amendment was made after reviewing the matter referred by the Royal Court concerning the requirement for an occupancy certificate as per the Saudi Building Code Implementation Regulations, as a prerequisite for the full activation of electrical power. This approval follows the consideration of the Shura Council's decision and a review of the recommendation by the General Committee of the Council of Ministers
