Saudi Green Initiative Forum Unveils Five New Initiatives Worth SAR 225 Million
The fourth edition of the Saudi Green Initiative Forum witnessed the launch of five new initiatives, collectively valued at SAR 225 million (USD 60 million). These initiatives are aimed at planting millions of trees, including mangroves, dispersing 300 million seeds, rehabilitating degraded land, reducing air pollution, and enhancing biodiversity across the Kingdom.
Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Maaden) and the National Center for Vegetation Development (Muroj) will lead the implementation of these initiatives in collaboration with the private sector and the National Development Company.
Since the launch of the Saudi Green Initiative in 2021, the Kingdom has planted approximately 100 million trees and dispersed millions of seeds to expand vegetation and combat desertification. Additionally, over 118,000 hectares of degraded land have been reclaimed, making significant progress towards the interim goal of rehabilitating 8 million hectares by 2030.
These afforestation efforts are a crucial step in achieving the Kingdom's long-term objective of planting 10 billion trees, contributing to combating desertification and enhancing the quality of life in Saudi Arabia.
